Lady Wildcats No. 1 in East Newton

The Cassville girls track and field team took home top honors at the East Newton Relays, winning first place in nine total events. Across those events, 11 different Lady Wildcats came away with golds. Annie Moore led the field with three firsts, in the 4x200 relay, 4x800 relay and pole vault. Grace Yocum, Sharayah Seymour, Evelyn Elliott, Jolie Evans and Jaydn Williams-Reed all brought in two medals apiece, with Williams-Reed’s coming in two individual events, the 200, and 400-meter dashes. ‘Cats claw to third at East Newton

The Cassville boys track and field team rode three first place medals to a third-place team finish at the East Newton Relays last week. Bradan Dickinson again won the shot put event, tossing 15.38 meters. The relay team of Garrett Ewing, Bryson Jacobson, Jake Anthonysz and Jon Oliphant won the 4x100 relay in 45.6, and the same team, substituting Oliphant for Kyle Bailey, won the 200 relay in 1:35.8. Eagles climb to 10-2

The Purdy baseball team (10-2) climbed into double digit wins this season on Thursday with a 9-5 victory over Liberal. Ezequiel Garcia led with 2 hits, and five total Eagles contributed an RBI in the game. Garcia pitched five innings, striking out 7 and giving up 8 hits and 3 earned runs. Hunter Lee came in relief to throw two and K 3. Two days prior, the Eagles put a dozen on Crane in a 12-0 win. Travis Hughes led with 2 hits, and he, Alexis Aldaba and Lee had 2 RBI each. Travis Hughes pitched a full five innings, giving up 2 hits and striking out 8.
