Wildcats hot at Ice Box Relays

The Cassville boys track and field team brought the heat to the Ice Box Relays in Aurora last week, taking first place among the 10 teams. The Wildcats were led by Bradan Dickinson, who won first in the shot put and discus. Six other individuals and three relay teams also scored golds. Full results include:

Purdy 4-0 on the diamond last week

The Purdy baseball team (8-2) went a perfect 4-0 on the diamond last week, defeating College Heights 11-1, then walking off with a 6-5 win over Southwest and getting two sets of four RBI in 11-6 and 8-2 wins over Sparta and Jasper. Against College Heights, Hunter Lee led with 3 hits and 2 RBI, and Ezequiel Garcia added another 3 RBI. Lee pitched 5 innings and struck out 5. Garcia again led in RBI against Southwest with 2, but it was Travis Hughes’ solo homer in the bottom of the seventh that won the game for the Eagles after both teams were scoreless since the fourth. Hughes also pitched 5 innings and struck out 7. Hughes was a big hitter again in the Sparta win, tallying 4 RBI on 3 hits. Garcia pitched 5-2/3 innings and retired 14 batters. Against Jasper, Matthew Cornelius stole the spotlight, matching Hughes’ 4 RBI, but on only two hits. Hughes pitched 6 innings and struck out 10. Purdy hosted Crane Tuesday and hits the road on Thursday to face Liberal.

Lady Trojans 2-1 at Lady Pirate Classic

There were no shortage of runs in the three-game Lady Pirate Classic on Saturday, with the Southwest softball team (7-6) going 2-1 and scoring 34 runs in the first two games. In an 18-13 win over Miller, Raeli Miles, Kaleigh Tull and Amy Reeves all had 3 hits, with Miles, Reeves and Anna Church each providing 4 RBI. Alli Fosse pitched 5 innings and struck out 2. In a 16-2 drubbing of Lockwood, Natalie Johnson and Saige Miller each contributed 3 hits, and Olivia Ayer led with 4 RBI. Fosse pitched another 6 innings, getting 6 Ks. In the tournament’s final game, the Lady Trojans fell to host Ash Grove, 10-0. Miller pitched 5 innings and struck out 2. Southwest hosted Clever Tuesday and stays home Thursday to host Hurley.
