School of the Ozarks won the event that featured 15 schools, with 93 points, while Southwest and Jasper followed with 78 and 73, respectively. “We made a few changes to score some extra points and the guys really responded,” said Coach Steve Voyak. “The wind was relentless all day making it challenging for all athletes.” Long won the open 800 meters and finished third in the mile and fourth in the 2-mile, while Uthe was second in the high jump and anchored the 4x800 (first) and the 4x400 (third). Sprowes was second in the 200 and helped the 4x100 earn silver as well. Otis Rainer, Robert Humphries, and Jerwyn Straw also were standouts at the meet. “Otis helped us medal in three relay events and Jerwyn in two,” Voyak said. “And Robert, who has been maybe our most impressive and consistent runner in the first three meets, medaled in the 4x800, 800, and mile. The girls team won their first medals of the young season. Sophomore Lyric Bernard was second in the 300 hurdles, while Junior Cally Bowyer was third in the 800. Finally, the 4x200 relay team of Bowyer, Bernard, Juliana Sierra, and Alexis Raucstadt was third. Southwest runs at Reeds Springs and Aurora next week.
