Led by two relay teams, the Southwest boys track team finished fifth in the McDonald County Stampede last week in Anderson. The 4x800 team of Robert Humphries, Otis Rainer, Caden Uthe, and Christian Long won the race in a time of 8:56.36. In the 4x100, the team of Rainer, Uthe, Ezra Sprowes, and Matteo Lumetta earned bronze with a time of 47.08 finishing behind Carthage and Cassville.

“It was cold and nasty but I was impressed with both groups,” said Coach Steve Voyak. “Our 4x800 has experience so I was hoping for a good time but the 4x100 ran a nice race given minimal practice with handoffs and chemistry.”

Other highlights on the boys side: Uthe was second in the high jump at 5-8 and third in the 400 (55.18), and Rainer was third in the long jump at 17-4 and Long finished runner-up in the 800 (2:15.59) and two-mile (11:34). In the girls’ meet, the Lady Trojans were 7th of 10 teams but had many athletes score, including Cally Bowyer in three relays and the triple jump, Lyric Bernard in two relays and the 300 hurdles, Alexis Raucstadt in the 400, 800 and the 4x800 relay, Juliauna Sierra and Allison Harling in three relays each, and Makaila Anderson in two relays. Southwest has meets this week at Republic and Diamond.
