James guarantees medal

The Cassville girls wrestling team had a mixed bag of results on Friday, with two Lady Wildcats securing medals and one in a state championship match.

Annie Moore, at 115 pounds, won her quarterfinal match by fall in the morning, then in the semifinals, overwhelmed her opponent for a 17-1 technical fall.

Faith James won her consolation quarterfinal and secured a top-six placement Friday. She wrestles Saturday morning for an opportunity to get third place. Kyle Troutman/editor@cassville-democrat.com

She will face Park Hill’s Angelina Vargas in the championship on Saturday. Vargas defeated Moore in the Wonder Woman championship earlier this season.

Faith James, at 135 pounds, also stayed alive on Friday. After losing her opener, James has won three consolation matches, and will wrestle again Saturday morning for a chance at the third-place match. She faces Clinton’s Amitira McNack, who fell in the semifinals to Parkway West’s Paige Wehremeister. The undefeated Parkway senior downed James in her opening round match.

Kelsey Harris, Cassville’s lone senior at 10 pounds, won a decision Friday morning to stay in contention, but in the third round of wrestlebacks, she fell in a 7-2 decision where she fought through an injury. She finishes one match outside of placing.
