Eagles fall to Verona

The Purdy boys basketball team (6-10) fell on the road Friday to Verona, 61-46. The Eagles went down by 12 at the break and outscored the Wildcats in the third quarter but could not complete a comeback. Purdy shot 35.2 percent from the floor and 24.1 percent from 3-point range. The Eagles suffered from 22 turnovers to Verona’s 8, allowing 21 total points from turnovers. Carter Keeling led Purdy with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Jake Young added 14 points and 6 boards. The Eagles traveled to Blue Eye Tuesday and head to Lockwood on Friday.

Wildcats go 1-2 at Spokane tourney

The Cassville boys basketball team (7-11) picked up a win in the first round of the Spokane Invitational Tournament last week, defeating the host 66-64. However, the Wildcats fell in the semifinals and third-place games, defeated by Blue Eye, 45-43, and Reeds Spring, 50-38. Aiden Cook was named to the All-tournament Team. Cassville faced McDonald County on Tuesday, with the result not available at presstime. The Wildcats travel to East Newton on Tuesday.

Lady Wildcats see tough competition in Kansas

The Cassville girls basketball team (10-8) ran into some steep competition at the Bill Hanson Memorial Tournament in Pittsburg, Kan., last week. The Lady Wildcats fell to Carthage, 61-29 in the opening round, then fell to the host team, 47-38. Cassville wrapped up the tournament with a 70-53 loss to Willard. The Lady Wildcats played Tuesday at McDonald County and play Thursday at East Newton.

Tigers, Trojans meet in Spokane fifth-place game

The Southwest and Exeter boys basketball teams met in the fifth-place game of the Spokane Tournament last week, with the Trojans getting the best of the Tigers, 64-60. Southwest’s Cruz Marquez and Exeter’s Corey Hilburn were named to the All-Tournament Team.
