Anthonysz third at 20-team Branson event on Saturday

The Cassville boys wrestling team was on the road in Branson Saturday, bringing home one bronze medal at the 20-team Branson Boys Invitational.

Jake Anthonysz, wrestling at 160 pounds, won his first two matches both by technical fall, taking 11 points in the first period of his first match and scoring 13 in the first period of his second. However, Anthonysz met his match in his third bout, falling to Rolla’s Andre Ridenhour by major decision, 11-3.

The junior managed to right the ship in his final match of the day, winning a 10-3 decision over Smithville’s Riley Brown to take third place at the tournament.

Cassville’s next-best finish was for 132-pounder Akhilleus Arguelles, who split his first two matches before falling in the quarterfinals to Neosho’s Hayden Crane by fall in 2:44. He bounced back in his consolation match with a pin of Smithville’s Jeffrey Kobel in 1:56, but he had to settle for sixth place after being pinned in the fifth-place match by Ozark’s Levi Maskrod.
