Vehicle overturns south of Purdy

A Lampe teenager died in a wreck at 3 a.m. on Sunday on Highway 37, one mile south of Purdy.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Jarett Crouthamel, 19, of Lampe, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado southbound when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Crouthamel was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:29 a.m. by Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingen. He was transported to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

Cade Hammen, 23, of Purdy, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. Another passenger, Trey Sturgell, 21, of Cassville, suffered moderate injuries and sought his own treatment.

None in the vehicle were wearing safety devices, and the vehicle was totaled.

This is the 28th fatality of the year for Troop D of the Patrol, which covers 18 counties in southwest Missouri, including Barry.

A benefit for Crouthamel is being held today (April 6) at noon at Four State Stockyards in Exeter. A feeder calf will be auctioned and ring donations will be taken at sale time. All funds raised will benefit the Crouthamel family.
