County’s tax statements mailed

Barry County Collector Skyler Bowman announced this week that the 2020 Tax Statements were mailed to Barry County taxpayers on Monday. People that do not receive their statements by Nov. 15 should call the Collector’s Office at 417-847-2113 to inquire about them. The 2020 taxes become delinquent on Jan. 1, 2021. Payment can be made in person at the collector’s office with cash, check, debit or credit card. When paying with a debit or credit card, the provider of this service will be charging a fee. Also, payment can be made online at, and a fee will be applied when paying in this manner.

Waste Management District meeting

The Southwest Missouri Waste Management District N will hold its monthly Executive Board Meeting at 11:50 a.m. on Nov. 10 at Angus Branch Steakhouse in Monett. This meeting is open to the public. A teleconference number will also be available for this meeting. People may contact the District office at 417-236-9012 or 417-342-6306 prior to the day of the meeting for the call-in number and passcode.

DAR to celebrate Veterans Day

The Alexander McNair Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will meet on Nov. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Monett. The group will be hearing from a female veteran from WWII who is turning 101 in January. The group will also be making hand-made Christmas cards for veterans at the Mount Vernon Veterans Home. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Anyone wondering about joining DAR is encouraged to attend. For more information, people may call 231-343-2727.

Wheaton UMC Fall Festival canceled

Due to COVID-19, the Wheaton United Methodist Church has canceled its annual Fall Festival previously scheduled for Nov. 7.

OATS Transit resuming

OATS Transit is open for regular transportation service, however face masks are required on the bus due to COVID-19. Please call the OATS Transit office at 417-887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about service in your area. Visit the OATS website at and click on the bus schedules tab for Barry County to see the full schedule. OATS Transit is available to the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. It also contracts with a number of agencies to serve their clients.

Seligman dances continue

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center will continue every Saturday at 7 p.m. Everyone is also asked to bring a snack to share. For more information, people may call 417-662-3612.
