Area runners flood state fields
Cross County meet to feature plenty of local flare
While technically they will be running in Boone County, it might as well be Barry County north at the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Cross-County State Championships at the Gans Creek Recreational Area in Columbia on Saturday.
The district events were held at various locations last Saturday, and 16 Barry County athletes from Cassville, Purdy and Southwest high schools turned in qualifying times.
In order to advance to the state meet runners had to place in the top 15 individually or have their team finish in the top two.
The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats will have multiple runners attending the event.
The Wildcats will run as a team after a second-place finish with individual placings of fourth, 12th, 15th, 20th and 27th.
The order of finishing with their time is as follows: Pace Evans, 17:38.79; Caleb Leach, 19:12.40; Jacob Martinez, 19:26.49; Ethan Bohmke, 19:52.72; Charles Elliot, 20:40.24; and Donald Pettyjohn, 24:48.17.
The Lady Wildcats just missed qualifying as a team but will still send Jordyn Stafford, who finished fifth with a time of 20:42.89; Annie Moore, who took seventh with a 21:08.17; and Jolie Evans, who was 10th with a time of 21:44.89.
The Trojan boys just missed qualifying as a team, finishing with 54 points, just a single point behind qualifier New Covenant Academy with 53.
Christian Long finished fifth with a 17:41.78; Caden Uthe took seventh with 17:59:19; Otis Rainer finished eighth with a 18:23.37; and Lucas Lakey was 14th 18:57.11.
Cally Bowyer will represent the Lady Trojans after a ninth place finish in 23:34.46.
