Annual Shell Knob festival Shakin’ for 16 years

Fun, free end-of-summer event set for Saturday

Locals will be shakin’ their way to fun at the 16th annual Shakin’ in the Shell festival this weekend.

On Friday from 5-10 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., people can enjoy everything from vendor booths to a Car Show and a Mutt Strutt.

Twilia Harrison, Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce director, said it is a fun, free event with food, drinks a variety of vendors.

“Due to COVID-19 we have decided to not have rides this year,” she said. “We are being very COVID aware, and everything is safely distanced.”

In lieu of the rides, the event will have a Kids’ Craft Project Tent from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

“Every hour, they will have a different project for the children to enjoy for free,” Harrison said. “We will have ready made bags for the activities, and everything the child needs for the activity will be provided for them to keep.”

People interested in registering for the car show can do so the day of, which is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Every precaution to provide a safe and fun environment for the vendors and the attendees has been taken,” Harrison said. “Everyone needs to make the decision that is best for them and their family.”

Masks won’t be required, but they are welcomed.

“We have been working closely with the Barry County Health Department and emergency management,” she said.

A schedule of the events for Friday and Saturday includes:

Friday

• 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. — The band Morgan Square will play

Saturday

• 10 a.m. — Veteran Tribute where the Shell Knob VFW Post No. 2203 will do the Flag Presentation, the National Anthem sung by Nolan Crain and Phoenix the Bald Eagle will be presented by Dickerson Park Zoo

• 10:45 a.m. — Dickerson Park Zoo will host a hawk presentation             

• 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Kids’ Craft Project Tent                                                                                                  

• 11:45 a.m. — Pooch Palooza starting with Diskey the Wonder Dog at 11:45 a.m., followed by Mutt Strutt at 12:30 p.m.

• 2:00 p.m. — Dickerson Park Zoo will host a reptile presentation

• 3:30 p.m. —   DJ & Karaoke with Brent Breeson
