Power outage affects Cassville, Exeter

Unexpected substation issue fixed by 11 a.m.

An unexpected power outage hit large portions of the Cassville and Exeter areas Tuesday morning.

Laura Holycross, member services coordinator with Barry Electric, said the outage started at about 8:30 a.m.

“It was linked back to our substation and was widespread in the Cassville and Exeter areas,” she said. “It started at about 8:30 a.m. and was restored a little after 11 a.m.”

Holycross said the substation is maintained by KAMO Power, a generation and transmission cooperative that serves multiple electric cooperatives, including Barry Electric.

“Since it is maintained by KAMO, that limits us on what repairs we are able to do,” Holycross said. “We worked on it some, then they came in and fixed it relatively quickly, even though it probably seemed like an eternity and affected a lot of businesses and residents.”

Holycross said all power has been restored, and Barry Electric is not expecting any ongoing issues related to the substation situation.
