Cassville changes recognition dates for athletes

Usually, high schools reserve the final home game of the regular season to honor its senior athletes.

The player and their parents are recognized for their devotion to the program and are given a token of appreciation. Generally, it is an emotional event, as the athlete is reminded that it is the final time they will play a regular-season game in front of the home crowd.

However, the tradition is taking a twist this season with Cassville opting to move the ceremony for most of its programs to the first game due to the uncertainty of getting in a full season with the threat of COVID-19 (coronavirus) potentially canceling contests.

The new dates are as follows:

Softball: Sept. 1 versus Nevada

Volleyball: Sept. 1 versus Blue Eye

Soccer: Sept. 3 versus Fair Grove

Band: Sept. 4, Marshfield football game

Cheer: Sept. 4, Marshfield football game

Cross Country: Sept. 4, Marshfield football game

Football: Oct. 23 versus McDonald County
