On April 19, 2020, Sy Rogers passed into eternity after struggling with cancer for nine months.
Born Sinclair Ulrey Rogers II, to the late Sinclair Rogers and Barbara (Walker) Rogers on December 15, 1956, in Cassville, Mo. He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Grace Lobato, and son-in-law, Steve; two grandchildren, Avi, 9 and Lucia, 4; and his mom, Jane Rogers.
Sy graduated from Monett High School after serving AFS as an international student in Brazil for six months. When he returned, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years with an honorable discharge in November of 1978. He met and married Karen Ann Campbell in 1982 in Hagerstown, MD. In 1985, they had a daughter, Grace, while living in Orlando, FL. After giving his life to the Lord in 1980, Sy became a leading communicator on God, Sex and Culture. He lived overseas in New Zealand, Singapore and back in New Zealand for a total of seventeen years. In 2012, he moved his family to Auckland, New Zealand, to be on staff at Life Church. He divided his time between the church and his itinerant global preaching/teaching ministry. Sy had a full and blessed life.
A Celebration of Sy’s life will be live streamed on the First United Methodist Church website at www.fumcmonett.org/watch at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020. Because of current health concerns, attendance will be limited to the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, Mo.
