New manager overseeing Computer Shoppe
Brent Whitley to manage local tech store
One consistent growth over the years has been the use of technology in all aspects of life — work, school and home.
And for those who cannot diagnose or repair a computer issue, have no fear, Brent Whitley is here.
According to Tim Powers, owner of The Computer Shoppe, the business moved from its original location on the square to 52 Main Street in Cassville about there years ago.
“I bought the company in 2014,” he said. “I own three other companies in Joplin related to this one.”
Over the years, Powers has had a few different people in The Computer Shoppe managing it, but now, he is interested in a revamp of the company, which includes a new face.
“Whitley will be managing the store starting July 1,” he said. “He actually job shadowed another employee of mine for about nine months.”
The three other companies Powers owns are Toner Connection, which sells and services printers, inks and printer cartridges; Own Office Concepts, which services and sells any make or brand of copiers; and Total Coding, which sells printing into manufacturing facilities.
“This is important because as part of the revamp, we are working to make it easier to access any of the companies through any store,” Powers said. “So, if a customer goes into The Computer Shoppe needing a copier, Brent Whitley can help assist the customer locally. It gives the store versatility on what we can do. We are also considering doing iPhone repair at The Computer Shoppe.”
All of the companies tying together is a way for Powers to bring more services to Barry County.
“Cassville is in a unique spot — it is close to northwest Arkansas and Joplin or Springfield, but it is still a drive to get there,” he said. “Until now, The Computer Shoppe has been known for computer repairs, but the networking side of things hasn’t been focused on. That is where Brent comes in. He is capable of that type of work.”
Whitley is from the area.
“I grew up on a ranch and was homeschooled,” Whitley said. “But, I have always been into computers.”
During his senior year of high school, he job shadowed a former employee of The Computer Shoppe.
“I loved it,” Whitley said. “When I went to college, I majored in computer networking and got my certifications in IT, PC repair and networking.”
Whitley is happy to be offering his services in his hometown.
“I want to help with customer satisfaction by making sure they are getting what they want,” he said. “But, at the same time, I want to help make their day.
“I was raised understanding family businesses, I know the importance of focusing on customer service. When customer service goes up, the store’s reputation goes up.”
Whitley will be in The Computer Shoppe from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“I want people to know that if they have any requests or concerns, they can come to me,” he said. “I enjoy a challenge, that is what stood out to me about computers the most to begin with.
“If something comes up that I can’t fix, I go after it harder.”
Powers said he is thankful for the support of the community over the years.
“We want to serve you better by offering more services,” he said. “We are a Christian based company that believes in the Golden Rule, ‘Treat others as you would like to be treated.’
I am excited to see what Brent will bring to the company, he is very excited too.”
