Velma Elizabeth Woolis
Velma Elizabeth Woolis, 79, of Shell Knob, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
She was born May 2, 1941, in Weir, Kan., the daughter of John and Rachel (Bunney) Newport. On Nov. 26, 1960, she was united in marriage to John Woolis, who survives.
Additional survivors include: one daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Culver and her husband Ted of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; one daughter, Cynthia Caudell; two brothers, John Newport and Jimmie Newport; and one sister, Roberta Blosser.
She grew up and received education in Weir, Kan., where she graduated from high school. For several years, she worked as a cook. In 1992, she and John retired to Shell Knob where she worked for six years as a cook for the school.
She was a member of Grace Community Church in Shell Knob. She loved kids and was a Girl Scout leader for several years and also taught Sunday school.
Services were held Friday, June 12, at Grace Community Church in Shell Knob, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob. Pastor Joe Evans conducted the services. Burial was at Lake Park Memorial Gardens in Shell Knob.
