Kindergarten, Kinder Academy screenings upcoming

Cassville elementary offers two types of kindergarten classes for kindergarten age-eligible students. Kinder Academy, as well as traditional kindergarten, are available to students who will be 5 years old by July 31. Kinder Academy is a two-year kindergarten program available for select students who may have not had exposure to school social skills, like a preschool experience, developmental readiness, motor skills, etc., and who would benefit from a smaller class size (no more than 15 students) or who have late birthdays (typically March-July). Screening results, parental recommendations, preschool teacher recommendations, and Parent As Teachers parent educator observations will be used to potentially fill student spots. Screening of all kindergarten age-eligible students, 5 years old by July 31, will be on March 31 and April 2 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Cassville. Enter through the South Entrance door across from Dr. Assing’s office. Please call Cassville Primary office at 417-847-2445 to schedule an appointment. Parents and guardians will need to bring the following items on the day of screening: Child’s birth certificate, child’s shot records, proof of residency and parent’s driver’s license.

Preschool screenings scheduled

Preschool screening for 3- and 4-year-old children in the Cassville school District is scheduled for April 8-9. Parents of 3- and 4-year-old children may call the primary office at 417-847-2445 to schedule an appointment. Children must be 3 by Aug. 1. The BRIGANCE Early Childhood Screens III test will screen children in the following areas: physical development, language development, academic skills/cognitive development, and self-help and social-emotional skills. The screening will take at least 30 minutes to complete. Screening results will be shared with the parents. Children who are currently enrolled in the Cassville preschool or who will be eligible to attend kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year do not need to participate in the screening.
