Area teams conclude hoops seasons

Wheaton boys, Purdy girls fall

The hoops seasons concluded for two area teams, as the Wheaton boys fell to Thomas Jefferson, 68-56, and the Purdy girls dropped a 56-47 decision to Jasper at Webb City.

Clinging to a 3-point lead at the end of the first quarter, Thomas Jefferson erupted for 28 points in a game-changing second quarter.

Outscoring the Bulldogs by 18 in the second period, Thomas Jefferson held a comfortable 42-21 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs kept coming, as Wheaton trimmed its deficit to 7 with 51 seconds remaining. The Cavs hit enough free throws to seal the win.

Wheaton (13-13) received 17 points from Jack Mitchell and 11 apiece from Chad Meyer and Kelton Park.

Purdy girls

The Lady Eagles battled valiantly and took a 45-40 lead in the four quarter before Jasper countered with a 16-2 run to finish the game.

Kinsley Mattingly scored 13 for Purdy to lead the way. Dally Craig had 10.
