It was a joyous day in Purdy when standout Andrew Martinez signed his national letter of intent to play baseball at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout next season.

During his baseball career with Purdy, Martinez accrued 217 hits in 444 at-bats with a .489 average. He is a three-time All-Conference and All-District honoree and a two-time All-State honoree. With the help of Martinez’s skills and leadership for the Eagles, they have achieved a 126-30 record, with three Conference and two District Championships.

Martinez said it was amazing being a member of the Purdy baseball team, and he looks forward to his future with the College of the Ozarks.

“It’s been a great experience playing with guys I grew up with and always having my mom — my biggest fan — cheering me on in the stands,” Martinez said. “I really appreciate Coach Mann and Coach Hughes working with me to be a better baseball player and a better man. They showed me the definition of respect both on and off the field.

“My baseball family has made me the person I am today. I am excited to continue growing as a player, a student and a man at College of the Ozarks.”
