Jesse L. “JL” Callaway

Jesse L. “JL” Callaway, 77, of Exeter, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Oct. 8, 1942, in Woodward, Okla., the son of Jesse Preston and Vada Dell (Glocksien) Callaway. On June 8, 1963, in Ridgley, he was united in marriage to Myra Cantrell.

Survivors include: his wife, Myra; two daughters, Robin Day and her husband Bruce of Exeter, and Karen Mitchell and her husband Todd of Seligman; one sister, Shirley Moore of Hondo, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Joyce Beardslee.

He grew up and received his education in Cassville, where he graduated from high school. For 26 years he worked as a printer at Litho Printers and had also worked at Efco for seven years, and Able 2 Products for 21 years. In 2009, he retired from Exeter Fire Department where he had volunteered as a pump engineer. He was a member of First Christian Church of Cassville.

Services were held Thursday, Jan. 2, at First Christian Church in Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Sid Allsbury and Pastor Jerry Yarnall conducted the services. Burial was at Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter.
