New post office officially opens in Purdy

The new post office in Purdy at Washington and Commercial streets officially opened its lobby for over the counter customer service on Monday. Postmaster A.J. Johnson said carriers began operating out of the building three weeks ago, serving approximately 500 boxes. Johnson has 13 years with the U.S. Postal Service, mostly in Texas. He offered pulled pork and sugar cookies to customers visiting on Monday. He and Tonya Hendrix, lead clerk, will be staffing the desk. Johnson said additional stamps and stock are still coming before he has the office in its final form.
