John Wilbur McCallister
John Wilbur McCallister, 95, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 25, 2019, at Missouri Veterans home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
He was born December 25, 1923, in Aurora, Missouri, the son of Delbert and Lottie (Horner) McCallister. On January 25, 1946, he was united in marriage to Wilma Henson, who preceded him in death on June 15, 2004. Also preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.
Surviving are one son Roger McCallister of Kalispell, Montana; one daughter, Jackie Carpenter and her husband Jack of Washburn, Missouri; one brother, Don McCallister and his wife Joann of Monett, Missouri; three sisters, Norma Hooten of Hobbs, New Mexico, Katie Mae Brown and her husband Jerry of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Betty Jo Perdue of Harrisonville, Missouri; five grandchildren, including Janelle Cox and her husband Jason and Jennifer Carpenter and six great grandchildren, Josie Cox, Jenna Cox, Julie Cox, Jessa Cox, Jared Hayworth and Jacey Carpenter.
John received his education at Liberty School in McDowell, Missouri, and graduated from Cassville High School. From February 23, 1943, until December 24, 1945, he served as a sergeant in the United States Army, being a gunner and also an airplane and engine mechanic. For forty-five years, he was employed as an automobile body man and foreman for Blalack Garage in Cassville. Later, he owned and operated his own business. He was a member of Cassville First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. Some of his favorite pastimes were making quilts and fishing.
Graveside services with military honors were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Clio Cemetery in Jenkins, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor James Weaver conducted the services.
