30th Annual Jenkins Fire Department Fish Fry set for Saturday

The 30th Annual Jenkins Fire Department Fish Fry will be held Satruday. The schedule includes: 4:30-6 p.m., music; 5-7 p.m., food served; 6 p.m., auction. The Fish Fry is at Station No. 1, located just west of the junctions of Highways 39 and 248, south of Aurora. The menu includes fish, chicken, slaw, baked beans, hush puppies, dessert and a drink, all for $10 for adults and $5 for children 10-and-under. The department is comprised of all volunteers — board, firefighters, and auxiliary. Community members help with cleaning, cooking, serving, gathering of auction items and donating homemade desserts and canned sodas. Many area businesses and individuals donate items for the auction. Voter registration deadline, absentee voting dates set

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 9 for those who are not current registered voters of Barry County and who wish to vote in the Nov. 5, 2019, Special Election. People may register to vote at the County Clerk’s Office; the Monett Chamber of Commerce; or the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce. People must notify the County Clerk’s Office if they have moved and have not updated their address or had a name change. Absentee voting began Tuesday at the Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville and continues through Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If unable to vote in person, a voter may send a written request to the office of: Jill H. LeCompte, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO 65625 or fax to 417-847-5311. The Office will need: name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee and signature. Anyone living in the Shell Knob or Monett area may go by the Shell Knob Chamber or Monett Chamber Office and fill out the absentee application. They will fax it to the Barry County Clerk’s Office. Fall Train Ride set for Oct. 12, Oct. 13

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce and Arkansas-Missouri Railroad will sponsor the Fall Train Ride to Van Buren, Ark., on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13. This is an all-day trip, with the train departing at 7:30 a.m. and returning at about 6:45 p.m. The ride coincides with the Arts and Crafts Show Week in Van Buren. Riders will board at the community building next to Seligman City Hall. They may get their own lunch in Van Buren, as there will be food vendors on the street. Riders will have a three-hour break in between the arrival and departure in Van Buren. The train depot is on the street where all activities are located. The train will go through a 1/4-mile tunnel, cross three high trestles, cross 18 rivers or streams and travel through the boot heel of the Boston Mountains.
