Shakin’ in the Shell competitions set

Wednesday, September 4, 2019

The Shakin’ in the Shell Fest, to be held the evening of Sept. 13 and all day on Sept. 14, will hold several fun competitions this year on the 14th, including a horseshoe pitching competition, a talent show and the Bark in the Park Dog Contest.

Entrants can sign up for horseshoes by 11 a.m. at the Chamber Park fairgrounds. There is a small entry fee. The event is organized by Pete Ploss, 2019 First Place Winner Missouri State Horseshoe Championship. Winners will receive trophies and cash awards for first, second and third place.

Shakin’s Talent Show is seeking people of all ages to show off their unique talents. Entrants must turn in an entry form by Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. at the Chamber office, or by email to pryzm@centurytel.net. Entry forms are available online at www.shakinfest.com. The Talent Show will start at 3:45 p.m. on the main stage, with participants judged on originality, showmanship, overall performance and stage presence.

Bark in the Park continues the festival’s long-time commitment to the area’s furry friends. Sign-ups occur between 2-2:30 p.m. at the park. There is no entry fee. Ribbons and prizes by Blackies Backyard and Cool Canine will be awarded to dogs in several categories: ugliest dog, smallest dog, largest dog, best costume, best trick, and most look like owner. This event will also include presentations by Janice Swofford on how to show a dog, and T’s Dogs will demonstrate how to train your dog.

These fun events and all the other activities at Shell Knob’s Shakin’ in the Shell Fest would not be possible without the support of many business sponsors. MariCorp U.S. is one of the gold sponsors for this year’s festival. MariCorp is one of the largest floating boat dock manufacturing and construction firms in the United States, specializing in galvanized steel floating docks. With projects spanning coast-to-coast, MariCorp U.S. operates on an 11-acre facility located right here in Shell Knob.

SS Dockside Cafe and Pub has stepped up to sponsor the festival as a gold sponsor. Located at Kings River Marina, Dockside serves delicious meals from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Kurt and Shelli Dixon have brought years of restaurant experience here to Shell Knob and welcome residents and visitors to come to Dockside by land or water.

“Thanks to MariCorp U.S, SS Dockside Cafe and Pub and all the other festival sponsors, Shakin’ in the Shell is shaping up to be two days of fun and entertainment for the entire family,” a press release said.
