Fall athletes get taste of live action Friday

Whether fans, players or coaches are ready, the fall season is here and unofficially kicks off for several teams in the form of preseason jamborees.

While technically considered a practice session, the jamboree format allows teams to face other schools in a live-game format.

Coaches like the chance to face other opponents than themselves, and the scrimmages serve as a chance to work on personnel groupings or find the right fit for certain positions.

“Unlike most teams, we do not go to a team camp,” said Lance Parnell, Cassville coach. “That means we have just been playing against ourselves since July 1. I know I’m ready to see us play someone else, and our kids are ready to play against someone else.”

The Cassville football team makes the trek to Republic to face Willard, Parkview and Republic, with play starting at 7 p.m..

Each team will play in a single round-robin format. A round will consist of each team getting 12 offensive plays and 12 defensive plays.
