Vehicle overturns down embankment, hits trees

Two men died Wednesday morning after a wreck at 1:30 a.m. on Highway 39, three miles north of Shell Knob.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Everette Kritz, 27, of Cassville, was driving a 2014 Chrysler 300 northbound when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, overturned down an embankment and struck several trees.

Kritz was pronounced dead at the scene by Barry County Coroner Jim Fohn at 2:25 a.m. A passenger in the vehicle, Jacob Morrell, 21, of Springdale, Wash., was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield and was pronounced dead by Dr. Salas at 3:36 a.m.

Kritz was not wearing a safety device, and Morrell was. The vehicle was totaled.

These are the 57th and 58th fatalities in 2019 for Troop D of the Patrol, which covers 18 counties in southwest Missouri, including Barry.
