Chuck Terrill: Dull becomes delightful when you meet the author

A young lady, from a small town, finally graduated from college.

She had majored in library science. In time, she landed her dream job. All of her life, she was a voracious reader, and a lover of books. She had longed to work among books, full time. At last, she was the librarian in her community’s public library.

One day, she processed a new book. She wasn’t the least bit interested in it. It was small and looked dull. Unimpressed, she catalogued it and put it on the shelf for someone else to read. While some titles offered the promise of excitement, this book looked like a boring book.

Then, one day, the woman with the dream job met her dream man. It was love at first sight. As they drank their coffee in the small town café, the woman remarked that his name sounded familiar. She couldn’t put her finger on it. Then suddenly, she remembered. “We have a book in our library written by someone with the same name! What a coincidence!” she exclaimed.

“That’s not a coincidence,” said the dream man. “I am the author of that book!”

Later that night, when the librarian arrived home, she wasted no time. She grabbed her work keys and rushed to the library. She had no trouble finding the little, dull looking book. It had never been checked out. She took it home and stayed up reading until a little after 3 a.m. This was the most interesting book that she had ever read! She reprimanded herself before going to bed: “You really can’t tell a book by the cover!”

What made the difference between dull and delightful? The little book hadn’t changed. She had. She had changed because she had met the author.

Does the Bible look like a dull book to you? You ought to meet the author! What a difference knowing the author will make! When you have fallen in love with Jesus, the Bible becomes the most interesting book you have ever read. It is filled with inspiration, poetry, history, narrative, love and joy. The Bible is the world’s all time, number one, best seller. It is a literary and spiritual masterpiece!

What a difference knowing the author makes. When people meet Jesus His book becomes a treasured book. You really ought to get to know the author of the World’s greatest Book.

“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth…” (John 1:14).
