Itís the end, doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo! First-graders got the chance to take a 45-minute class for eight days this summer through the YMCA Safety Around Water program. The course was designed to help prevent drowning and taught children tips on swimming. Kaylee Raider, YMCA lifeguard, taught some of the more advanced swimmers how to dive in using a shark fin method. Jordan Privett/jprivett@cassville-democrat.com
The YMCA offers a free Safety Around Water course for first-graders, and over an eight-day period skills grew and students grew more confident. On Thursday, Ivan Ortega used his newly learned swimming technique to swim all the way to Rick Ragsdale, Cassville YMCA executive director, and was safe at last, doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo. Cassville first-graders recently spent eight days at the Aquatic Center in a course through the Cassville YMCA called Safety Around Water. The students learned different skills, how to swim and how to jump into the water and come back up, like Ryken Ritchie did, with the help of YMCA lifeguard Dalton OíNeill, on Thursday.
