Wildcats sends quartet for gridiron game

In what has become one of the ultimate honors in southwest Missouri, Shannon Haney, Anthony Tolbert, Evan Kessinger and Mason Hendrix will represent Cassville on Friday in the 18th annual Sertoma Grin Iron Classic at JFK Stadium in Springfield.

Cassville Coach Lance Parnell said he is blessed to have players that are chosen to play in this game.

The West All-Star team will be headed by Shannon Haney and 13 other members of the Big 8 Conference on Friday at the Grin iron Classic. Kyle Troutman/editor@cassville-democrat.com

“You want to nominate players that will go up to this game and represent the school, community and our program well,” Parnell said. “Then, you get your players chosen and that tells you that they are going to play well for the West side, and as a coach, you can’t help but be proud.”

The West All-Star roster contains several familiar faces. Of the 43 players named to the squad 14 (33 percent) are from the Big 8 Conference. Other Big 8 players joining Cassville’s include:

The Grin Iron Classic will also feature tours of the Tooth Truck, ICON CHEER, the National Guard color guard, a visit from Ronald McDonald, concessions and commemorative programs and T-shirts.

Since its inception in 2002, the Tooth Truck has helped almost 25,000 children with dental treatment valued at more than $16.1 million through 56,100 dental appointments.

The philosophy of The Tooth Truck is to complete each child’s treatment plan so every patient has a healthy smile.

The Tooth Truck operates Monday through Friday, all year-round, visiting sites such as Great Circle, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Salvation Army when schools are not in session. There is no charge for services provided by the Tooth Truck as it operates entirely on donations from the community and Missouri Medicaid reimbursements.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $6, and children 6-and-under are free.

The Grin Iron Classic is presented by Delta Dental of Missouri and the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club.
