Visit residents on Friday during Open House
Roaring River Health and Rehab invites public in for fun
Roaring River Health and Rehab is preparing for a week of fun to celebrate National Nursing Home Week, ending with an open house on Friday from 1-4 p.m.
Norma Kirkpatrick, Roaring River Health and Rehab activities director, said it is a great opportunity for people to come in and see what happens in a nursing home.
“It isn’t a sad place to be,” she said. “We have a lot of fun.”
Kirkpatrick said for nursing home week the organization has planned fully filled days of fun for each day this week.
“We get our staff and residents involved in everything,” she said. “Each day has a theme, then on Friday, we are open to the public from 1-4 p.m. We have sno-cones and cotton candy for sale, raffles, a bounce house, clown and free hotdogs and hamburgers.”
Kirkpatrick said the money raised is going to purchasing a new barbecue grill for the residents.
“They like to grill out in the summer time and they have fun with it,” she said. “This open house will be a fun event for the public to come in to tour the facility and meet our residents.”
Kirkpatrick said for Mother’s Day they held a big ice-cream social and gave flowers to all the ladies.
“Monday, we had [Cassville Mayor Bill Shiveley] come and speak, Tuesday was sports day, Wednesday is crazy hat and hair day, Thursday is tie-dye day and then it is wrapped up on Friday with our open house,” she said. “The open house and nursing home week is one of the residents’ favorite events.”
Kirkpatrick said the residents look forward to this event and dressing up all year long.
“We have a week of fun,” she said. “We have never tried an open house at the end of the week before, and our hope is that people come to visit with the residents.”
Kirkpatrick said the residents get to relax and have fun during this week.
“It is really important to them,” she said. “We want people to come out and join the fun.”
