Southwest to compete in 4 events
It will be a busy weekend for the Southwest track team as athletes head to Jefferson City for the Class 1 and Class 2 state track meet.
The Trojan squad will be competing in four events at state.
Sophomore John Scannell qualified in 110-high hurdles.
Scannell scored points at every meet this season in the hurdles and won the sectional meet at Clinton when he tied his personal record of 16.05 seconds.
He is ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 2 based on time and will run in the preliminary round Friday at 11:50 a.m. If he advances, he runs in the final Saturday at 11:40 a.m.
Senior Trevor Sneed qualified in the 400-meter dash.
Sneed placed fourth in the sectionals with a time of 53.53.
He is ranked 26th in the state in Class 2 based on time and runs in the preliminary at 2:30 p.m. Friday. If he advances, he runs at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
Sophomore Brylee Wilson qualified in the 400-meter dash Wilson came into this season as primarily a distance runner and qualified for state in cross-country.
She was second at sectionals in a time of 1:02.26.
Wilson is ranked 12th in the state based on time.
Her preliminary run is Friday at 2:15 p.m. If she advances, she runs at 1:05 p.m. Saturday in the final.
The 4x800-meter boys relay team of Trevor Sneed, Christian Long, Xander Deshields and Travis Sickles placed fourth in sectionals with a personal record of 8:48.32.
The Trojans overcame a dropped baton in the event and still qualified to state.
The team is ranked 16th in the state in Class 2. There is no preliminary for the 4x800, so they run in a final at 11 a.m. Saturday.
