Area teams head to Crane
Coinfilp costs Purdy host bid
Coaches always look for ways to fire up their teams to keep an edge.
Purdy grabbed the No. 1 seed in the Class 2, District 6 tournament but were denied a chance to host the tournament when the Eagles lost a coin flip.
Host sites are determined by a vote of the district member schools.
Purdy and Crane both placed a bid to host, forcing a vote.
Purdy, Wheaton and Pierce City banded together, but Southwest voted with Crane and Billings.
The deadlock forced a coinflip tiebreaker.
According to Joshua Hughes, Purdy coach, the Eagles did not need any extra motivation, but they would not turn the tool down either.
The tournament opens May 11 with No. 4 seed Pierce City (9-9) and No. 5 seed Southwest (3-8), followed by No. 3 seed Crane (8-10) facing No. 6 seed Wheaton (6-7).
On May 13, semifinal action begins at 5 p.m. with No. 1 seed Purdy (18-1) playing the Pierce City-Southwest winner.
No. 2 Billings (9-5) will entertain the Crane-Wheaton victor.
The championship game is slated for May 14 at 5:30 p.m.
