Cassville soccer in the midst of 8-hour shutout streak
It has been 511 minutes, over 8.5 hours or 10.5 high school football games, since the Cassville girls soccer team (8-9) has allowed an opponent to score a goal in regulation.
During the eight-game run, Cassville has won seven contests, losing only one in a shootout, where the goals scored do not count against the team total, to Branson after two overtimes.
During timed play, the Lady Wildcats have been nothing short of spectacular after starting 3-9.
“I think we are figuring things out,” said Jake Forste, Cassville coach. “We are a confident team — not cocky — but you can see with each game the girls are having fun out there.”
Last week, Cassville defeated Greenwood, 4-0, McDonald County, 1-0, in a hard-fought win, and Aurora, 2-0.
Jazmin Aguirre stayed hot with six goals last week including a hat trick against Greenwood and a free kick goal to give the Lady Wildcats the win over McDonald County.
On Thursday, Cassville travels to Fair Grove (6-10), and Forste said the team faces a huge threat.
“I think Fair Grove is very well-coached,” Forste said. “I scouted them on Monday at Monett, and you could see the girls knew what they were doing and were attacking. We are going to have to play exceptionally well.”
