Richard James Schmitz
Richard James Schmitz, 74, of Shell Knob, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Berryville, Ark.
He was born Dec. 9, 1944, in Cicero, Ill., the son of Emil A. and Evelyn (Campbell) Schmitz. On April 13, 2002 in Kimberling City, he was united in marriage to Joann Sterling, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sherri Streicher and her husband John of Beaverton, Ore., and Candy Opal of Chicago, Ill.; two sons, Dominick McLain and his wife Jennifer of Springfield, and Daniel W. McLain, III, of Shell Knob; one sister, Beverly Schaper of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister.
He graduated from Main East High School in Park Ridge, Ill. From Aug. 11, 1965 until Aug. 6, 1967, he served in the U.S. Navy. In July, 2018, he moved from to Shell Knob to make his home. He was a member of Central Community United Methodist Church. Services and presentation by VFW Post 2203 were held Tuesday, at Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob. Burial will be at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
Cremation arrangements were under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob.
