Trojans off and running after McDonald County Relays
Southwest Track at McDonald County Relays
Sophomores John Scannell and Brylee Wilson led the Southwest track team at the McDonald County Relays in Anderson last week.
The boys were sixth overall with 34.5 points, while the girls were ninth with 17 points.
Scannell placed in the 110 hurdles, long jump and triple jump and helped the 4x100 relay team earn fifth. Wilson took third third in the 800 meters and 8th in the mile and placed seventh in the high jump.
Senior Mariah Munday placed in the triple jump (eighth) and long jump (seventh) and helped the 4x100 relay team finish 5th. Senior Trevor Sneed (400) and Sophomore Travis Sickles (mile) placed in an individual event and then helped two distance relays score.
“Our experienced athletes did as expected, but I was impressed with our freshmen newcomers,” said first-year Southwest Coach Steve Voyak. “This is a large meet and it can be intimidating, but Max Terry, Christian Long, Haiden Sanders, Xander DeShields, Eden Morris and Haily Erwin all showed some maturity in their first competition.”
Terry tied for fourth in the 200 in 25.5, and Erwin got seventh in the mile.
Southwest runs at Republic this week.
