Lady Bulldogs fall in sectional
Miller too much for Wheaton, 61-24
For the first two minutes of the Class 2 sectional on Wednesday, the Wheaton faithful were able to dream.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-0 lead and showed no signs of fear going against a larger Miller squad.
However, that would be the high water mark, as Miller responded out of timeout with the next 13 points en route to a 61-24 win.
Seniors Hallie Mitchell and Tori Goostree led the Wheaton scored 8 and 7 points, respectively, and junior Zoie Simpson tallied 5.
With six freshmen, one junior and one senior making up its squad, Miller overcame a slow shooting start to build a 32-17 lead by halftime. The Cardinals then outscored Wheaton 28-7 in the second half, limiting the Bulldogs to just 5 points in the third quarter and two in the fourth.
Miller owned the paint and forced Wheaton to live and die with outside shots.
The Lady Bulldogs still had a successful season winning Wheaton’s first girls district title since 1993.
