Familiar foe awaits Lady Wildcats at districts

Revenge will be squarely upon the minds of the Lady Wildcats basketball team as the Cassville girls race into the Class 2, District 12 tournament on Saturday in Webb City.

The Lady Wildcats are the No. 6 seed in a six-team field, but can take solace in the fact that their schedule has prepared them to play with the best.

Cassville opens the tournament with No. 3 seed Monett at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

During the regular season, the Lady Wildcats had the Lady Cubs on the ropes in Monett, and had it not been for a last-second desperation 3-pointer by the rival Purple and Gold, Cassville would have had a victory.

It will not be a tough sell for Coach Tom Hubbard to tell his team that they have a great chance to advance to a district semifinal, and that his squad’s seed in the tournament does not mean anything.

No. 4 seed Neosho and No. 5 seed McDonald County will battle in the other quarterfinal at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Cassville-Monett winner plays No. 2 seed Webb City in the semifinal on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The Neosho-McDonald County winner will play No. 1 seed Carl Junction on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

The championship is set for Friday at 6 p.m. All games will be played in the Cardinal Dome.
