Second season approaching for Purdy
Area teams’ district seeds announced
Only a handful of games remain on the regular season schedules for the small school basketball teams in the area.
On Wednesday, Class 1 and Class 2 schools found out their district seed and first round opponents for the win-and-move-on tournament.
For Class 2, District 12, a field where four of the eight teams are from the bi-county area, the action begins on Monday at Webb City High School.
On the boys’ side, Pierce City played its way to a No. 1 seed. Thomas Jefferson claimed the No. 2 seed, followed by College Heights as the No. 3 and Liberal the No. 4.
Purdy was voted the No. 5 seed, with Jasper the No. 6, Wheaton the No. 7 and Southwest the No. 8.
Action for the boys begins on Tuesday at 4 p.m. with Pierce City and Southwest, followed by Liberal and Purdy at 5:30 p.m.
Thomas Jefferson and Wheaton are scheduled at 7 p.m., and the nightcap will feature College Heights and Jasper.
The semifinal round is slated for Feb. 21. The winners of the Pierce City-Southwest and Purdy-Liberal contests will play at 6 p.m. followed by the Thomas Jefferson-Wheaton and College Heights-Jasper victors at 7:30 p.m.
The boys’ championship game is slated for Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
On the girls’ side, College Heights earned the top seed and Wheaton the No. 2. Jasper checked in at the No. 3 slot, and Pierce City claimed the No. 4 seed.
Liberal is the No. 5 seed; followed by Purdy, No. 6; Thomas Jefferson, No. 7; and Southwest, No. 8.
Action begins on Monday at 4 p.m., with College Heights and Southwest battling. Pierce City and Liberal are slated for a 5:30 tip.
Wheaton and Thomas Jefferson will meet at 7:30 p.m., and Jasper and Purdy conclude the opening day with a 8:30 p.m. game time.
