Kenneth Carl Sturgeon
Kenneth Carl Sturgeon, 95, of Stella, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
He was born July 23, 1923, at Granby, the son of Charles Harve and Inez Marie (Camerer) Sturgeon. On Feb. 24, 1967, in Wheaton, he was united in marriage to Willadean (McQueen) Cooper, who preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 2018. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Carl Sturgeon; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Cooper and one brother Corky Sturgeon.
Survivors include: his children, Bill Cooper of Wheaton, Joy Tichenor and her husband Ed of Abilene, Texas, Beverly Hill of Arma, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Janet Sturgeon of Fairview; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
He grew up and attended school in Newton County. In February 1943, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany as Sergeant until March 1946. At a young age he was saved and was a charter member of Wheaton Southern Baptist Church.
For 50 years, he served as a board member of the Barry County Co-op. He was a cattle and grain farmer.
Services were held Tuesday at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton. Pastor Paul Wahlert conducted the services. Burial was at Muncie Chapel Cemetery in Wheaton.
