Cassville couple celebrate 70th anniversary

Bob and Sue (Brown) Mitchell, of Cassville, recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends in Overland Park, Kan. The couple were married January 3, 1949, in Bentonville, Ark. They lived in San Diego, Calif., from 1951 to 1953 while Bob served in public relations for the U.S. Navy. When they returned to Cassville in 1953, Bob joined the Cassville Democrat, later becoming editor and publisher. Sue worked alongside Bob for many years, handling newspaper advertising. She also enjoyed several years as a beautician. In June 1995, they sold the newspaper, ending 123 years of operation by the founding Ray family. Bob and Sue have been active in many community initiatives over the years. The couple have one son, Bruce (Janice) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Shelley (Dennis) Bartkoski of Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
