John William Manning

John William Manning, 72, of Shell Knob, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Cassville.

He was born in Springfield, on Oct. 30, 1946, the son of Eugene Lawson and Emma Faye (Witt) Manning. On March 23, 1968, he was united in marriage to Janice Pettet, who survives.

Also surviving are: two sons, Leland Manning and Jeff Jennings; two daughters, Janice Rene Reynolds and her husband Rick and Christy Reynolds and her husband Butch, all of Shell Knob; one brother, Gordon Manning of Springfield; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, seven sisters and three brothers.

He received his education in Bolivar, and later received his GED. As a young man he left Bolivar, and on March 10, 1966, he entered the U.S. Army, serving until Feb. 20, 1968. While in the Army he earned the National Defense Service Medal as a Rifle Sharpshooter. After he and Janice were married they moved to Springfield, where he worked as a farmer and carpenter. He attended the Bridgeway Assembly of God Church in Shell Knob.

Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
