Medical equipment lending available

The Central Crossing Senior Center has medical equipment available to lend out free of charge to anyone in the community who is in need. Items include walkers, either plain or with seating; wheelchairs, push or motorized; canes; bedside commodes; toilet risers; toilet arms; shower or bath chairs of several types; and a limited number of adult diapers. The Center also has a board with an arm to help someone get out of bed. All items are on a first-come, first-served basis. Borrowers’ names and phone numbers are required for administrative purposes. The only requirement the Center asks is that durable items are returned when no longer needed. Anyone who could use the items may contact the Central Crossing Senior Center at 417-858-6952 or visit the facility 20801 YY-15 in Shell Knob. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Medicare counseling results in significant savings

Central Crossing Senior Center’s volunteer Medicare counselors just finished their work with area seniors again this year. Due to their efforts, 141 clients were counseled: 96 from Barry County; 34 from Stone and 10 from other counties. Together, these seniors shared savings in the amount of $31,216.42. This represents a significant savings and is really money that can be saved or spent locally.  The Center extends a big thanks to each and every counselor who selflessly gave of their time and talents to help these individuals find the best health care for the money.
