Holiday tournament action nears for local teams
For 36 years, teams have flocked to Washburn for the annual Southwest Holiday Tournament.
This year, the field includes eight teams from two states and is set to play out in two gyms on campus from Dec. 27-29.
To make it easier for fans to attend, competition will not begin until 4 p.m each evening.
Gravette (Ark.) took the No. 1 seed, followed by Cassville, Marionville, East Newton, Gentry (Ark.), Southwest, Gravette junior varsity and Exeter.
All games on the opening night will be played in the high school gym. Gravette and Exeter open play on Dec. 27 at 4 p.m., followed by East Newton and Gentry at 5:30 p.m., Cassville and Gravette JV at 7 p.m. and Marionville and Southwest in the night cap.
On Friday, the Gravette-Exeter and East Newton-Gentry winners play at 7 p.m. in the high school gym, followed by the Cassville-Gravette JV and Marionville-Southwest victors. The losers will compete beginning at 7 p.m. in the junior high gym.
On Saturday, the second seventh place game will tip at 5:30 p.m. in the junior high gym, followed by the fifth place game at 8:30 p.m.
In the high school gym, the third place game tips at 5:30 p.m. with the championship tilt set for 8:30 p.m.
