Wheaton earns top seed at Southwest
Holiday tournament action nears for local teams
For the fifth year in a row, girls hoops teams will flock to Washburn for the annual Southwest Holiday Tournament.
This year, the field includes eight teams from two states and is set to play out in two gyms on campus from Dec. 26-29.
To make it easier for fans to attend, competition will not begin until 4 p.m. each evening.
Wheaton, last year’s runner-up took the No. 1 seed, followed by Gentry (Ark.), Reeds Spring, Galena, Exeter, East Newton, Marionville and Southwest.
All games on the opening night will be played in the high school gym. Wheaton and Southwest open play on Dec. 26 at 4 p.m., followed by Galena and Exeter at 5:30 p.m., Gentry and Marionville at 7 p.m., and Reeds Spring and East Newton in the night cap.
On Friday, the Wheaton-Exeter and Galena-Exeter winners games play at 4 p.m. in the high school gym, followed by the Gentry-Marionville and Reeds Spring-East Newton victors a 5:30 p.m. The losers will compete beginning at 4 p.m. in the junior high gym.
On Saturday, the seventh place game will tip at 4 p.m. in the junior high gym, followed by the fifth place game at 7 p.m.
In the high school gym, the third place game tips at 4 p.m. with the championship tilt set for 7 p.m.
