Wildcat soccer player shows excellence in two fields
In what is believed to be a first for Cassville High School, senior soccer player Andrew Berndt was named to the Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association (MSHSSCA) 2018 Academic All-State team.
"I am extremely proud of Andrew and all of our seniors this year," said Jake Forste, Cassville soccer coach. "I nominated five seniors for this award, which illustrates what an accomplished group we have in the classroom overall. For Andrew to be selected for this honor shows what I have seen for three years ó this young man puts his absolute best into everything he does. From National Honor Society to vetting for the US Service Academies to being a two-year captain of our team, Andrew is a leader among his peers and a role model for youth soccer players in our community. "
To be eligible, a player had to play at least two years on the varsity team and play in the majority of his teamís games in at least his senior season. There were 67 nominations this year, and from this group only the top 30 players based on unweighted GPA and ACT score were selected for the team. This year, the minimum score was 111.
Berndt will be honored at the 2018 MSHSSCA Honors Banquet and Hall of Fame Induction on Saturday in Columbia.
He is the son of Kurt Berndt and Lacy Berndt, both of Cassville.
