Central Crossing Senior Center honors area veterans
Central Crossing Senior Center (CCSC) honored area veterans Thursday as part of the Veterans Day celebration/commemoration by offering free lunches to all veterans.
“It was pretty much a packed house and there was great food and fantastic conversation as old friends met and new friendships were formed,” said Jeff Harp, public relations specialist for the Center. “This writer sat across from a delightful couple who shared with me a heartwarming story.”
Jim and Jean Beebe met while Jean was still in high school. It was 1944 and Jim got a notice from Uncle Sam requiring his services. Jim left to serve in the Army while Jean stayed home and finished school.
“While some in the military received a ‘Dear John’ letter, Jim was blessed with a daily letter of encouragement from young Miss Jean,” Harp said. “The war ended, the two were married and have since enjoyed 72 years of wedded bliss.
“Great stories like the one shared by the Beebes, delicious meals prepared by our talented chefs, with an uplifting program for the veterans, was made possible through the efforts of our staff and volunteers as well as the generosity of CCSC's Business Partners.
