Wildcats win big on road
Cassville puts up 43 points in first half against Nevada
The drive up to Nevada lasted longer than the duration of the game Friday, as Cassville (7-0) activated the turbo clock at halftime in a 50-8 win over the Tigers.
The Wildcats started the contest by forcing a punt, which Ethan Hoppes took back 55 yards to the house. After another Tigers punt, Anthony Tolbert rumbled off the left tackle for a 37-yard score.
The Cassville defense continued its dominance, but on its next drive, the Wildcats faced a fourth down. Quarterback Shannon Haney fakes the punt and kept the drive alive, leading to a 14-yard Tolbert run to paydirt, ending the opening quarter. The lead was extended to 29-0 with a 1-yard Zack Coenen run.
On the next Nevada drive, Deven Bates read the play and picked off a Tigers pass, setting up an 11-yard Haney run for score.
The Wildcats capped the 43-point half with a long passing drive. Haney hit DJ White three times, with White hauling in a 12-yard catch and feinting his way past a defender into the end zone.
Coenen added a 1-yard score to start the third quarter, and the turbo clock ate away all but the waning minute of the contest, when Nevada punched in a 1-yard run and converted the 2-point play.
Cassville heads to Reeds Spring on a Friday with a shot at the district title up for grabs. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
