Newspaper brings home 13 first place awards, 42 awards total

ST. LOUIS — For the fourth year in a row, the Cassville Democrat won the Gold Cup at the Missouri Press Association’s annual convention, naming it the best small weekly newspaper in the state.

The Gold Cup is awarded to the newspaper that scores the most points in individual categories.

The Democrat tallied 42 total awards, including 13 first place, including top honors in general excellence; 15 second place; four third place; and nine honorable mention. Points are awarded for each award, and the Gold Cup is awarded to the newspaper which garners the most points in each division.

The Democrat’s Gold Cup win in 2015 is believed to be the first in the newspaper’s 147-year existence.

“We are elated to have won this honor yet again in such a competitive state with outstanding journalists,” said Kyle Troutman, Cassville Democrat editor. “We strive each and every day to bring informative, quality and entertaining news to Barry County, and it’s always exciting to see our efforts rewarded.
