Shakin’ in the Shell set for weekend
Annual festival offers rides, entertainment, car show
Families looking for a fun weekend can enjoy free concerts, a kids fun area, outdoor games, a car show and much more Friday and Saturday at the 13th annual Shakin’ in the Shell festival, held at the Chamber Park in Shell Knob and hosted by the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce.
The concert will start Sept. 14 with Earl and Them, playing funky blues style music at 7 p.m., and continue on Sept. 15 with Switch it Up at 6:30 p.m.
Activities extend into Saturday with fun for the entire family. The farmers’ market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and local vendors will bring plants to sell. The event will have more than 40 commercial vendors and craftsmen.
The kids fun area offers an assortment of activities, including bouncy houses, bungie trampoline, rock wall, bubble ball soccer, carnival games and power wheels. Wristbands can be pre-purchased at the Shell Knob school, and in Cassville at Arvest Bank for $15 or can be purchased the day of the event for $20. New this year to the kids fun area will be camel rides. Three one-hump camels will be available to the public with two-person saddles.
Sand volleyball, a lip sync contest and horseshoe tournaments will all be available, and on Saturday from 4-8 p.m., there will be a tethered hot air balloon rides, which is new this year, as well. A casino party tent will also be set up, where people can play with fake money, and the participants can put in for prizes.
“The event is a huge fundraiser for the Chamber,” said Twilia Harrison, Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce director. “The funds are used for marketing our area, bringing in tourists and helping our businesses.”
There will also be a dog house tent area with a swimming pool for the dogs, a bone bar and bark’tini bar that will be set up for people with their dogs. The Bark in the Park Dog Show will be on Saturday from 1-2 p.m.
The winers of the little Mr. and Miss Shell Knob will be announced at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and all the participants will get on stage and have a little parade.
Registration for the Car Show and the Bark in the Park contest can all be done at the location the day of the event, or pre-registration is available.
“This is a wonderful time to come out for an end-of-summer event,” Harrison said. “We want you to kick up your heels and have a beautiful time at Shakin’. There will be free parking, and we provided all this entertainment. Just come out and enjoy it, and be with the community.”
