Master Gardeners dedication ceremony, bench
BarCo Master Gardeners offer tribute to local member
A member of the Master Gardeners for three years, Barbara Cowan will be honored with a dedication bench on the local Greenway Trail, facing the Aquatic center park.
The local Master Gardeners University of Missouri division, are a group of volunteers who give back to their communities by offering education on gardening and community projects.
Barbara Cowan passed away on March 8 and is survived by her husband Ronny Cowan.
“Barbara didn’t have to be a part of the Master Gardeners to be a master gardener,” Ronny Cowan said. “Everywhere we went, she always had the most beautiful garden. It really was her favorite hobby, she enjoyed the people and the planting, and she always knew what a garden needed and where to put certain plants.”
Barbara was part of the charter class that began in late 2014, and she was the historian for the group.
Her responsibilities included volunteering and doing workshops for various projects.
Ronny Cowan asked that memorial gifts for Barbara were given to the Master Gardeners, and the bench was paid for by those donations. The Master Gardeners created a list of different ways the money could be used for a memorial, and Ronny decided to use the funds for the memorial bench. The Master Gardeners also plan to plant bushes around the bench.
